From Our home to Yours!

12 Days of Christmas!

A Christmas Trip!

A trip around the world that is.....

I thought a nice warm looking Christmas quilt would be wonderful for our leather sofa this winter, leather can sometimes feel a little cold....

All Christmas fabrics including a lovely Christmas tartan on the back, I used Sew Bright batting, a lovely lustrous red Metro thread and a paper panto by Patricia Ritter called Christmas Holly...

I thought a trip around the world was appropriate to wish a Merry Christmas to all my friends near and far...hope you have good food, friends, family and many quilts to keep you warm....

I wish you health wealth and hapiness for 2011

It's spinning!

There's a strange landing pad on the river and it's spinning!

It's at a river convergence, (Slitrig and Teviot), the moving water is making the ice spin, I saw it a 8am and it was still there at 4pm....how cool is that....actually it's way cool....lol....

Update 22/12/2010

Today, it's stopped spinning and is now anchored to the ice on the river bank!

A Weave Quilt!

I finished quilting a weave quilt....it's a very simple pattern easily put together from a batik jelly roll which wasn't very well cut.....the idea behind a jelly roll is to give you a wide variety of fabrics and make the cutting out of the pieces quicker so I wasn't going to take the time to re-cut the pieces...I just went with it how it was and added lots of white fabric.....the weave design is subtle as the contrast is not too great but with the white added it makes a crisp looking quilt!

The coloured areas have minimal quilting, it wasn't going to show up much there anyway but the white spaces were just the perfect place to try out my new Christmas present to myself.....a circle maker for my longarm.

I used Bottomline top and bobbin...(love how the thread behaved....perfect tension) and a double batting for warmth of Hobbs 80/20 and Quilters Dream wool which together gave the fantastic definition shown in the above photo.....

I just went straight in without practicing, chose a simple circle design for all the white squares but used six different background treatments, pebbles, tiny swirls, nested circles, straight lines, a basket weave design and my version of McTavishing....in the borders I used swirls, feathered swirls and piano keys.......

I love the way this quilt turned out!

It's here again!

More cold weather and snow storms......

But also the diesel for the tractors and the kerosene for the Aga and central heating ....it was only ordered for 3 weeks?????

But just in time coz it's a bit chilly out there tonight!!!!

That's minus 16 degrees celsius!

Monday 13 December 2010

Look at this!

I'm not advertising.......

Isn't it funny how this delivery guy could get here with a big van full of these telephone books....just what we need?????

Where's the guy with the tanker full of diesel for the tractors and kerosene for the Aga and central heating?????

Forgot to mention!

I saw these guys hanging around!

I think they are taking it easy while they can!

Snow...clean white snow....

Clean,white snow......not......

Ever wonder what they do with all that snow they remove from the streets?

Friday 3 December 2010

To brighten up your day!

Minus 19 degrees in the Scottish Borders today.....warm and cozy in here....maybe.......

My mystery un-ravelled.... anyone following my blog would recognise this as Kristina's High Desert Mystery......my Granddaughter needed a fleece backed quilt...in the end I didn't use fleece so Fieron is now in the process of making her own quilt...good for her....

All along I was thinking it was a little too bright for my liking.....but....on a day like today this quilt just warms the cockles of your heart......could just climb in and stay there all day.....I love it......

The quilt finished at 82 inches square. I used a circle template for the centre of the blocks, SID, ruler work for the SouthWestern/Aztec looking sections and of course feathers.....it's batik front and back...peiced up the back with the left over fabric....Pellon Legacy 80/20 and Metro thread!

Piano keys and egg and dart in the borders....

The back.....

Are there plenty of photos yet?

Lot's of definition.....

I think that Fieron had better quickly make her own quilt so that I can keep this one?????

Here's the pillow sham that Fieron peiced herself...I put on the borders and quilted it.... Doesn't it looks great.....

Now back to quilting and on to the next one...lol....!
