Carol's Latte quilt.

Last week one of my customers came over to Borderland Fabrics in Jedburgh to pick up her quilt. Carol and her Husband travel all the way from Glasgow to bring quilts for me to quilt and then to pick up quilts again.

This quilt was an educational exercise, as Carol was teaching herself to use her embroidery machine on Sateen fabric...nice and slippery it was too!

The caffe latte coloured sateen bordered the cream sateen blocks with the fabrics right side up and reversed and with alternate cream cotton blocks. Twin needle work surrounded the large embroidered central motif.

Loading the quilt onto the longarm was a little tricky with the slippery sateen fabric, the slippery side of the cream fabric was against the wadding/batting. I used flowing feather swags with piano keys in the borders, a spineless feather in the sashings and then feathers and more feathers to pin down the blocks. I opted for continuous curves in the twin needle setting triangles and some swirls and curls around the feathered hearts.

It was a really happy day when this quilt came off the frame, Carol was thrilled to see the quilt finished and couldn't believe how beautiful it looked as she never thought that it would ever be a finished quilt, she named it 'Latte'! Oh, and I think Carol has that embroidery machine stuff down patt now don't you?

Visiting Family near Harrogate....

After my usual monthly dropping off and picking up of quilts last Friday at Borderland Fabrics, Jeburgh, I headed off straight down the A68 to Weardale, I'm a Weardale Girl!
I spent the night at my Mothers and next day we headed back to the A68 and off towards the A1(M) and the York/Leeds/Harrogate area to visit my Sister and her family. We stayed a couple of nights, it was great to catch up after such a long time.

On Sunday the three of us drove back to Harrogate for The Great Northern Quilt Show.

My own quilt Subtle Differences won a 2nd Place award in the Large Wall Hanging category and a Judges Choice award from Sylvia Critcher. I was pleased that it had been hung so that both sides of the quilt could be seen without it being handled, even though the hanging frame set up was a little different, it can be done!

Liz Villalobos also entered her Double Wedding Ring Quilt, the one I quilted for her. Although it wasn't boasting any ribbons it looked wonderful hanging there, the suble colour of the green fabics is so calming for a bed quilt.

A lovely quilt by Andrea Ashwell, I remember her piecing this quilt at Rydal Hall retreat....

Masquerade by Birgit Schueller won a 1st prize in the Large Wallhanging category and a Judges Choice from Shirley Bloomfield....

A lovely handquilted minature by Andrea Stracke, Caresite awarded 1st Hand Quilting

Serandite by Andrea Stracke awarded 1st Cot Quilt and 1st Wholecloth....beautiful....

Lots of interest in Linda Jackson's Cappachino, Runner Up Champion etc, etc, etc......

Looking at the back....

This quilt took 20 years to finish....

Sue's Mountmellick

Aren't I the lucky one to be asked to quilt this beauty.

This is the second quilt that I have been asked to quilt by Sue, it's perfection beyond words. My own set brief was to let the fantastic choice of fabrics speak for themselves. The quilting is there more than you know or can see, I wanted it to stay in the background.

The quilt is called Mountmellick and was designed by Di Ford and featured in Quiltmania magazine in 2014 as a  Mystery or block of the month type quilt.

I'll let the photos do the talking.......

Rulers and threads used

I know way too many photos.....

Isn't it just fabulous, another quilt that I didn't want to send home to France.....
