Gertrude causes flooding problems

It's so sad that my local quilt shop, Borderland Fabrics at Jedburgh was flooded this week by storm Gertrude. Although Annette's quick thinking manage to save most of the fabrics, all of the carpets and some shop fittings are ruined. The shop is closed for the time being.
I will contact any of my customers that I know I'd made arrangements with (if I have your telephone numbers). If you were coming to meet me at the shop or know anyone who intended to meet me at Jedburgh on Friday 5th 2016 can you please pass on this information, Thank you....

Here are some photos of quilts that went home during last year that haven't been shown....

This is Joanne's Swoon quilt destined to be a wedding gift for a beloved niece....everyone knows I'm a sucker for a swoon quilt....

I loved this quilt from Anna, she is a prolific piecer, this quilt had an edge to edge treatment, it looked great in this room, the fabric choices were a perfect compliment...

I am busy quilting and have quilts to show but my customers have to see them first before you do, so next post will hopefully have some photos of this years quilts....

On the Edge...

I am very happy to quilt edge to edge or pantograph type designs on my customer quilts, not every quilt requires custom or heirloon type work. Utility quilts and especially childrens quilts are perfect for pantograph and digital designs.

I forgot to take a photo of the above quilt once quilted but couldn't resist showing the inside, the piecing was absolutely perfect and the seams so well pressed that I had to record this for posterity.  Of course it will never been seen this way again, it's not often we get to see the inside of a quilt is it?

Surf by Anne Bright suits so many different types of quilts, I didn't have a sample to show customers so quilted this one up just for that very reason, have to say it's still awaiting the binding to be added but it's nearly finished isn't it?

Another sample showing Dazzle but this one does have the binding on and even hand finished to the back.

Annette at Borderland Fabrics, in Jedburgh made this lovely Irish Chain quilt in such subtle colours that I knew imediately that I would quilt it with Sherryberry by Anne Bright, it's a delicate design just perfect for this nostalgic looking quilt, I'm sure this quilt is going home with Annette and not to the shop....

Feeling a bit like Christmas

I have some very trusting Clients, I often get quilt tops in the post and have simple instructions to choose light custom or freemotion all over or digitised designs. These two quilts came down from Edinburgh in the post.

This quilt has modern Christmas fabric charm squares. The outer white frame I quilted with 'molar feathers', the middle white frame has ' molar feathers and the occasional holly leaf and the middle white frame has holly leaves and curls, I practice my freemotion quilting with a little drawing to get me going....
I'm linking this post up with Bonnie Hunter's Christmas quilt linky party 2014 at Quiltville

Merry Christmas from Scotland

Although not strictly a Christmas quilt this quilt with coneflowers is in a lovely, cosy flannel fabric, I chose a digitised daisy design that had the look of coneflowers. The backing was pieced in quarters and although I will tell my clients that I can't guarantee to get it perfectly centred, I was secretly thrilled that it was perfect with very little effort....that doesn't always happen!

Variety is the spice of life....

As a Longarmer, I'm lucky to have many wonderful Clients who allow me to quilt for them and see an array of fabulous quilts and fabrics. I had a few quilts that went home recently, the first, this table runner was already finished and stitched in the ditch. I was asked to add just a little flourish to the blocks to finish it off. Continuous curve in the blocks and a little motif gives the look of flowers and that's all that was needed.....

These lovely fabrics are from a jelly roll brought home from Canada as a souvenir, Eleanor made up the pattern, if I'm not mistaken this is the Jaybird Quilts pattern 'Science Fair'. Eleanor chose Sherry Berry by Anne Bright as an edge to edge design, it's on the pantographs tab at the top of the page.

Another beauty from Tania is this lovely Kimono quilt wallhanging destined for a gift I think. I quilted a 'blowing grasses' edge to edge design with black thread which only really showed in the border as the fabrics and the backing are very busy....this will look fabulous once bound and hung.....

Later this week, I'll be able to show you a quilt that has already crossed the North Sea twice, I'm waiting for my Client to reveal the quilt first but it is a stunner and worth waiting for so check back soon....

In the Red....

Catching up again, I had a run of red quilts.....although my camera is refusing to show the true colours. My trusted to do the right thing camera is at the moment unreliable so am having to fall back on a previous purchase.....not the same.....

My lovely customer Anna sent me these beauties....

A smaller topper or lap quilt with a star centre....... lovely colours and fabrics.....custom quilted....

Another with strips, another beauty..... this time edge to edge quilting with a Surf pantograph.....

Lastly a beautiful improvised star quilt, again custom quilting using both freemotion and Quilt Path motifs.

All are beautiful Anna.....

Although this quilt isn't strictly red, in real life it shows more red, it does have a red border and it was made for the Ruby Wedding Anniversary of Linda and her husband...All kinds of everything in this quilt just like life......

A wonderful tribute to forty years of marriage.....

Some customer quilts, It's been a while....

It's been a while since I posted any customer quilts, there have been a few, if I missed taking photos of yours it's just because life can be a little hectic sometimes, there is a lot to fit in.
If you have finished your quilt and have it bound you can always send me a photo and I'll include it on a future blog post...

This is a supersized king, all log cabins in pink and cream, Morag added appliqued freeform flowers to add a little interest. The edge to edge done with Quilt Path is Florence, it flows nicely with leaves and swirls with a cream Metro thread.

This is another huge quilt, my customer Diane chose Happy Times with a white thread, lovely turquoise, pinks and a soft green, destined for a gift that was greatly appreciated. This photo was taken by Diane after the quilt was bound and gifted.

Vivid greens and browns with cracked ice type prints for this stunner. Liz chose Chocolated Leaves by One Song Needle Arts for the edge to edge or pantograph design. Glide thread in Linen in the needle and Glide gold in the bobbin.

I'll be back soon with more updates.....
