A little trip!

I had a little trip down to England last week.....

That's the St. George's Cross and the Cross of St. Andrew known as the Saltire.... the flags of England and Scotland.

Scottish Border View looking north....beautiful.

I was travelling down to County Durham, I stopped here in the County of Northumberland for a break en route... this is a beautiful Roman settlement.

You can double click on any of the photos to zoom in...just click on your back button to come back here....

In the grounds of this church is a wonderful old 'pele tower'!

Out and about on Tuesday!

I wondered if planning permission would be given on this little old cottage?

Needs a bit of work don't you think!

Then I came across these two handsome Cydesdale Stallions out in the hills......

They were in different fields well separated to keep them from fighting!

Out and about on Tuesday!

The sky was just starting to change and then the heavens opened but look at the light on the loch!

Can you see the slits in the stone work for the bows and arrows!

A day out......about time! Part two!

Thought I had better explain....it seems like I have a lot of days out but infact most of my 'out and about' feature photos are taken on days when I am working...these three photos of architecture were taken when I was at the Spring Quilt Show on Friday.
Well, the first photo is of the old estate building on the Royal Highland Show Grounds...it's right behind the 'alpine lodge' type building where the quilt show is held....I wonder about the wisdom of the planning department sometimes?

Then this wonderful row of cottages is at this entrance to the Royal Highland Show Ground......

Love this!

Do you see what I see?

I've been out and about today and thought that you may be interested in seeing some of the sites I saw.....

These ducks enjoy living life on the edge.....

Modern sculpture.....perhaps.....more likely someone lost their scaffolding during the recent storms!

The little piglets didn't seem to mind which one was Mother and the Sows didn't seem to mind which little piglets suckled either....happy families!

The Geese must have had a reprimand at Christmas....

This building formed part of a Prisoner of War Camp during the Second World War.....

It's unusual to see an abandoned house, such a shame it would make a wonderful family home????

 The skyline at dusk...........then we turned around and headed for home.

As it's Burn's Night tonight I thought a poem was appropriate.......

"Green Grow the Rushes Oh"

Chor. - Green grow the rashes, O;
Green grow the rashes, O;
The sweetest hours that e'er I spend,
Are spent amang the lasses, O.

There's nought but care on ev'ry han',
In ev'ry hour that passes, O:
What signifies the life o' man,
An' 'twere na for the lasses, O.
Green grow, &c.

The war'ly race may riches chase,
An' riches still may fly them, O;
An' tho' at last they catch them fast,
Their hearts can ne'er enjoy them, O.
Green grow, &c.

But gie me a cannie hour at e'en,
My arms about my dearie, O;
An' war'ly cares, an' war'ly men,
May a' gae tapsalteerie, O!
Green grow, &c.

For you sae douce, ye sneer at this;
Ye're nought but senseless asses, O:
The wisest man the warl e er saw,
He dearly lov'd the lasses, O.
Green grow, &c.

Auld Nature swears, the lovely dears
Her noblest work she classes, O:
Her prentice han' she try'd on man,
An' then she made the lasses, O.
Green grow, &c.

An English Mans Home is His Castle!

That's what they say!

This is an English castle ... Carlisle Castle ...we parked right beside it today while we went Christmas shopping...don't know if an English man lives there, (I think not as it's a visitor centre) and I presume that there would be more horsepower of the four legged variety when the castle was built more than 900 years ago.....

I love old buildings!

I see some wonderful old architecture on my travels during my working day........

This one is an hotel...obviously.....

This one is a courthouse!

I went to visit a friend......this is right up her alley, literally.....

It's a lovely old cobbled alley!

Who needs Venice?,

Who needs Venice when we have some of these wonderful Victorian tiled floors here in the UK, this one is in Hawick, Scotland!

Not in my home but a bit personal to me and who knows, maybe a quilt will come from this one too some day!

Remember this one from my Mothers hall in northen England, it's more elaborate, but they are both interesting!
