Not quite over the edge of the year but....

Marion paper pieced this random hexagon quilt top years ago from fabrics harvested from some of the dresses she wore in the sixties and seventies. There is lots of history and sentimental memories hidden in each patch. Quilted with Surf. Marion chose the option of having me apply the half binding for her so that she could hand sew the binding to the back of the quilt top while she reminisced on her youth, misspent or otherwise....

Lillian pieced this logcabin quilt with a kit bought from Fabric Focus in Edinburgh, I quilted it with a design named Feather Flourish..

The Law Quilters up at North Berwick pieced this quilt top which will be raffled in 2019, lovely shades of teal, peach, browns and creams combine to make a lovely batik top. I quilted it with crystal Maize in a teal thread....

Irene's lovely Kaffe Fassett quilt is a Garden Trellis design , quilted with Midsummer which has hidden stars, moons, hearts and flowers.

Another lovely logcabin quilt from, traditional in design but and sporting the regular red chimneys but using lovely summery colours, again quilted with Midsummer

Ishbel pieced this lovely modern quilt top using a grey Grunge fabric for the background which really sets of the bright colours, Crystal maize was a perfect match to finish of the top, as usual Ishbel was delighted...

I'll be back again with another post before the end of the year......

Broderie Perse!

Angela is a return customer who produces outstanding appliqué work. This is broderie perse,  (French for "Persian embroidery") and is a style of appliqué which uses printed elements carefully cut from fabric to create a scene when appliqued onto the background fabric. It was most popular in Europe in the 17th century, and is said to have probably travelled from India.

As can be seen there are rich reds and creams appliqued in Baltimore style blocks with an undulating vine border with birds and butterflies. The wadding is Simply Cotton, 100% cotton. The quilting is all freehand, freemotion, handguided using a cream thread and an invisible thread to give definition to the flowers and leaves.

I know this is a treasured quilt that was stitched at the bedside of her little Granddaughter, Hannah during some difficult days in hostpital. The quilt will be gifted to Hannah in years to come.

I really was sorry to send this one back home to Southern Ireland.

As usual, there are lots of photos to enjoy.....
