Yes, twenty three years, that's how long this lovely sampler has been waiting to be finished.....
I am sure Shona would have had it finished sooner if she had realised the potential once quilted....
My customer chose lovely pinks and green fabrics which all work really well together. I was told that this top was pieced in America while on 'bed rest' during a pregnancy with twins twenty three years ago....well I guess life took over a little after that....
I quilted a winding feather in the background and lots of different feather motifs and fills in the blocks but I think the 'deck of cards' block has to be both mine and Shona's favourite.
The two half blocks on the sides were just begging for butterflies to match the border fabric....they turned out really well. This quilt was all freemotion hand guide with a little ruler work for the stitch in the ditch...
The backing fabric shows off the quilting perfectly.....
I used Simply Cotton wadding and Metro thread in a very light cream...this is a queen sized quilt roughly 95" x 80"
I think I am correct in saying that Shona is thrilled this one is now quilted and I have it on good authority that is is now being bound for a complete finish.....

How wonderful this lovely quilt is in the last of being completed. Your quilting really completes this lovely quilt.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
Always, Queenie
Oh Kay this is lovely! I had one of my customers give me a sampler that had been sitting around unfinished for twenty years too! Great to get them quilted.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that its finished! I wonder if the twins will fight over it ; )
ReplyDeleteYour quilting is fabulous! My first quilt (also a samper) is mainly green and pink - I gather this is a very popular colour choice for beginners!
ReplyDeletePretty :) I love seeing these older UFOs - such fun throwbacks to the old styles. It's really neat the way the feathering almost creates another sashing effect zigzagging down the centers.
ReplyDeleteBut just think, if it had been quilted back then, it wouldn't look as good as this. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYour quilting is so good it makes all the years worthwhile!
